WORK & LOCAL LIFE
Working in Sotogrande: where to look, how to approach local employers and what to consider before accepting a role.
¿Dónde empezar?
A useful local job search combines published vacancies with a shortlist of employers you would like to work for. Include Sotogrande, Pueblo Nuevo, Guadiaro, Torreguadiaro and San Roque; widen the area only as far as you can comfortably travel for the shifts involved.
Our job-search resources connect you with employment services and employer searches. If you are recruiting, send us a vacancy for review.
Types of work
Hospitality & tourism
Restaurants, cafés, hotels and leisure businesses offer a variety of roles, from kitchens and housekeeping to reception and guest services. Explore the Guía de restaurantes y hotel guide to research employers; inclusion in these guides does not mean they are currently hiring.
Homes & practical services
Maintenance, gardening, cleaning, construction and property management are useful areas to explore. Describe your practical experience, tools or licences where relevant, and the type of work you are looking for. Our services guide is a starting point.
Office, property & customer service
Administration, sales, marketing and client support suit different skill sets. For commission-based roles, ask how leads, expenses and payment are handled. Language skills can be valuable, but each employer will have its own requirements.
Education, sport & care
Schools, clubs and families may recruit teaching, coaching, childcare or support staff. Qualifications and experience depend on the role. Use the escuelas y sports guides to learn about the area before making a targeted approach.
Prepare your application
Keep your CV clear and relevant to the role. Include your current location, languages and proficiency, recent experience, availability and a reliable contact number. State whether you have transport when the job involves shifts or travel between properties.
A short introduction helps: explain the role you want, why your experience fits and when you can start. Attach a readable PDF and use a recognisable filename. For creative or practical work, a small portfolio can show what you do more effectively than a long list of claims.
Send applications through the channel requested by the employer. Keep a simple record of the company, role, date and follow-up. If approaching a restaurant in person, choose a quiet time rather than the middle of service.
Compare an offer
Discuss the actual working week before accepting: start and finish times, split shifts, weekends, work location, travel between sites and the proposed start date. Ask how pay is expressed, what is fixed or variable, and how any commission, overtime, tips or expenses are handled.
It is also worth understanding the team, training, responsibilities and who you will report to. Ask for the offer and agreed terms in writing so both sides have the same understanding. For questions about your circumstances, use an appropriate employment adviser.
If you are moving to Spain or considering work across the Gibraltar border, confirm the requirements that apply to you before making commitments. Spain and Gibraltar have different systems; permission to live in one place should not be assumed to cover work in the other.
Everyday practicalities
Try the commute at the times you would actually travel. A journey that is easy at midday may be less convenient after a late shift. Use our Guía de autobús y local map to plan.
For a move, compare housing and travel costs with realistic take-home pay. Our Guía del barrio helps you understand the different areas, while useful information brings together everyday local contacts.
Employment resources
San Roque’s AMDEL publishes local employment information and vacancies. The Andalusian Employment Service (SAE) provides vacancy searches and employment resources. Read each listing’s application instructions and deadline.
Preguntas y respuestas
Are there jobs in Sotogrande throughout the year?
Search year-round and distinguish permanent roles from seasonal recruitment. An employer’s needs can change quickly; ask whether the role is ongoing or linked to a particular season or project.
Do I need to speak Spanish?
It depends on the role and team. Describe your level honestly and ask which languages you will use with colleagues, customers and suppliers. English alone will not suit every vacancy.
Where should I look beyond Sotogrande?
Pueblo Nuevo, Guadiaro, Torreguadiaro, San Enrique and San Roque may widen your options. Consider La Línea, Estepona or other areas if the journey fits your working hours.
Can I send my CV directly to a business?
Yes, if the business accepts direct applications. Check its recruitment page or ask which channel to use, and tailor your introduction to the work you want.
Does a business in the directory have a vacancy?
Not necessarily. The directory helps you research local employers; it is not an announcement that each business is recruiting.
Should I prepare an English and Spanish CV?
It can help when applying to different employers. Keep both versions consistent and choose the language requested in the vacancy.
Can I find part-time or seasonal work?
Look for listings that state hours and contract duration. Explain your availability clearly, including weekends, evenings and any dates when you cannot work.
Is a car essential?
Not for every job, but location and shifts matter. Check the exact workplace and public transport at your start and finish times before accepting.
Can I work remotely while living here?
That depends on your work arrangement and personal circumstances. Think about workspace, internet access and any employment or tax questions relevant to your situation.
Do you recruit on behalf of employers?
This guide provides local information and routes to job-search resources. Unless a listing explicitly says otherwise, applications and hiring decisions belong to the employer.
Can businesses submit a vacancy?
Yes. Use our vacancy submission page to send the role, location, hours, pay details and application method for review.
How do I know whether an offer is still open?
Check the original listing and contact the named employer or employment service. Publication dates are useful, but do not by themselves confirm a role remains available.
