Valderrama is closely associated with the 1997 Ryder Cup and has also hosted LIV Golf Andalucía. Cork oaks, tightly framed fairways and small greens give it a distinctive character: this is a course where positioning matters as much as distance.

Playing as a visitor: Plan this round around confirmed visitor availability. Check the club’s current handicap, dress and accompanying-guest rules, and ask which services are included in your booking.

Playing as a visitor: Use the club’s current online reservation system or contact the office for visitor arrangements. Confirm the requirements for your party before building the rest of a trip around a particular tee time.

Golf courses in Alcaidesa

La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, formerly known as Alcaidesa Golf, has two 18-hole courses. Links follows the coast; Heathland takes the game into hills and valleys. Both deserve their own place on a shortlist.

La Hacienda — Heathland Course

Heathland offers a different round at the same resort, moving through higher ground and inland valleys. Designed by Dave Thomas, its mix of open sections, narrower fairways and water hazards makes it a useful second option when planning more than one day of golf in Alcaidesa.

Playing as a visitor: Select Heathland in La Hacienda’s booking system. The two courses share resort contact details, but their layouts and available tee times are different.

Golf lessons, academies & shorter rounds

You do not need to begin with a full championship round. A lesson or a shorter session can help you find your level, build confidence or fit golf into a family visit.

The Alto Club Golf Academy

The academy offers adult and junior programmes, a Toptracer range, short-game areas and custom fitting. Its separate nine-hole par-3 course provides another way to practise. Ask which session or format suits your experience and whether equipment is included.

La Cañada’s municipal golf school

The school in Guadiaro offers junior and adult programmes. Check the current course dates, registration process and available places; a scheduled school programme is different from booking a one-off lesson during a holiday.

La Reserva Club also offers golf lessons. Contact your chosen club to compare coaching, practice access and arrangements for junior players.

Before booking a golf round in Sotogrande

Confirm visitor access

A course appearing in this guide does not mean every tee time is available to visitors. Check the dates, any handicap requirement, dress code and rules for non-playing companions before confirming your plans.

Compare the complete price

Look beyond the green fee. Check whether the price includes a buggy, trolley, range balls or other services, and ask about club hire if you are travelling without equipment. Follow the booking links for rates for your own dates.

Ask about course conditions

Before a special trip, ask about planned maintenance and any restrictions affecting your round. Weather can change the day’s arrangements; check the club’s cancellation and rescheduling terms when you book.

Plan travel between courses

Use the correct clubhouse location, particularly for the two San Roque courses. Allow time for check-in and warming up. If you are combining several clubs in one trip, confirm the tee times before finalising transport and accommodation.

Questions about golf in Sotogrande

How many golf courses are included in this guide?

Nine full-length, 18-hole courses: Valderrama, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, La Reserva, The Alto Club, La Cañada, San Roque Old Course, San Roque New Course, La Hacienda Links and La Hacienda Heathland. Academy and par-3 facilities are discussed separately and are not counted in that total.

Is Almenara Golf still called Almenara?

The current name is The Alto Club. Its main golf offering is an 18-hole course alongside SO/ Sotogrande, with a separate academy and short-format options. Older pages describing three interchangeable nine-hole courses no longer reflect the current offering.

Are San Roque Old Course and New Course the same club?

Use separate contacts when booking: the Old Course is presented by The San Roque Club, while the New Course is presented by San Roque Golf & Resort. Their websites, booking systems and golf contact numbers differ. Confirm the full course name on your reservation.

What is the difference between La Hacienda Links and Heathland?

Links is the coastal layout with Mediterranean and Gibraltar views. Heathland moves through higher ground and inland valleys, with lakes and a different pattern of holes. They are two separate courses at La Hacienda in Alcaidesa, so select the correct one when checking availability.

Can beginners or children learn to play locally?

Yes. The Alto Club’s academy and La Cañada’s golf school both offer programmes for adults and juniors. Ask about age groups, experience levels and the type of booking available. Learning facilities and course entry requirements are separate matters.

How much does a round cost?

Rates depend on the club, date, tee time and what is included. Use the direct booking links above or request a quote for your party. Confirm any equipment or transport extras before comparing one offer with another.

Make a trip of it

Compare places to stay in our Sotogrande hotels guide, plan a meal with the restaurant guide and explore the local beaches between rounds. For accommodation packages, ask which courses, tee times and extras are actually included.
